Wings lose on Emo Night to Halifax

A four-goal Halifax run in the first quarter put Saturday’s game out of reach for the Philadelphia Wings, who could get no closer than a one-goal deficit the rest of the way in an eventual 14-10 setback.

Mitch Jones started the scoring just 36 seconds into the game, but Halifax responded with four goals in just over five minutes to lead 4-1 after the opening frame. Sam LeClair scored an early one in the second quarter, but three more from the Thunderbirds made it 7-2; the Wings did manage to claw back within four at 8-4 at halftime.

Philadelphia then added three more to open the third quarter, with Ben McIntosh getting two of them to complete a hat trick, and the score was 8-7 with just over six minutes left in the third. But the teams simply traded goals from there. McIntosh’s fourth made it 11-10 halfway through the fourth quarter, but Halifax finished it off with three in a row.

Jones had three goals and four assists for a seven-point contest while McIntosh added an assist for a five-point game, but Blaze Riorden and Taite Cattoni (one goal apiece) were the only others to tally for the Wings.  Zach Higgins started in goal and allowed seven tallies in 17:58 of play before stepping aside for Angus Goodleaf, who gave up six goals in 42:01 of action.
