Wings Defeat Mammoth in Colorado

The Wings got back on track in Denver on Friday night as they jumped on the Mammoth early and never looked back.

The Wings were helped to a five goal lead with first quarter goals from Joe Resetarits, Ben McIntosh (2), Mitch Jones, and Holden Cattoni. Colorado started to show signs of life in the second quarter, cutting the Wings lead to 5-3 before Resetarits and Jones scored in the final minute of the half to take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break.

The Mammoth started strong in the second half as well, scoring five goals in the third quarter. But the Wings kept pace with the Mammoth, scoring four of their own. Colorado cut the Wings lead to three early in the fourth, courtesy of Connor Kelly. But a four goal run from the Wings put the game out of reach for the Mammoth. The Wings ultimately went home with a 16-12 win after a couple of garbage time goals from the Mammoth.

Mitch Jones led the Wings with 8 points (4G, 4A), while Ben McIntosh (4G, 3A) and Joe Resetarits (3G, 4A) tallied 7. Chad Tutton had a big game with 4 points (1G, 3A), and Sam LeClair (2G, 1A), Blaze Riorden (3A), Holden Cattoni (1G, 2A), and Ryan Wagner (1G, 2A) all had 3 points and Alex Pace, Ian Llord, and Isaiah Davis-Allen all contributed an assist.

Defensively Zach Higgins was huge again in goal, making 39 saves and surpassing the 4000 career save mark. Scott Dominey and Alex Pace were ball magnets on the floor, each scooping up 10 loose balls. Pace and Ian Llord also caused 3 turnovers each. Nick Rowlett had the slight advantage in the faceoff dot on the night as he won 16 out of 31 draws on the night.

This game was huge for the Wings hopes to draft in the top 2 this year, as they leapfrog Colorado in the standings. They own the Mammoth’s first round pick this summer, so the lower the Mammoth finish in the standings, the higher the Wings will be making their first round pick.
