Wings Sign Defenseman Matt Bennett

Philadelphia, PA –The Philadelphia Wings have signed defenseman Matt Bennett to a 2-year agreement, according to head coach/general manager Paul Day. The Wings have also placed defenseman Chet Koneczny on injured reserve and have released Brayden Hill from the practice squad.

Bennett, 26 (1/28/1993), comes to the Wings from the Buffalo Bandits, where he has a goal and 13 loose balls in four games this season. He is in his fifth season with Buffalo, during which time he’s scored two goals and added eight assists for 10 points in 38 career games, while gathering 167 loose balls.

“Matt is a smart, young defender with good size and speed,” Day said. “He has played with several of our defenders including Anthony Joaquim, Chet Koneczny, Zac Reid, Dylan Evans and Ryan Wagner, so he’ll fit in well with the chemistry of our defense.”

A 6-2, 198-lb native of Brampton, Ontario, Bennett appeared in 13 games for Buffalo during the 2016 season and 14 games in 2017 before being limited by injury to five games last season.

Bennett was selected by the Bandits in the second round (14th overall) of the 2014 Entry Draft after a four-year Junior A career with his hometown Brampton Excelsiors.

Bennett will be available in San Diego. You can catch the game at 10PM on B/R Live.
