Wings Lose Heartbreaker in Overtime against Panther City

For the past few weeks, the Wings have found themselves battling back into games in the fourth quarter. While they came out on top last week, this week the Wings fell in overtime.

The game started slow in terms of scoring, with only three goals between both teams in both the first and second quarters. For the Wings, unfortunately only two of those goals were theirs (McIntosh, Riorden).

Trailing 4-2 at halftime, the first 13 minutes of the third quarter included more struggles offensively for the Wings, with the only goal coming with four minutes remaining from Panther City. However, the Wings offense woke up in the final two minutes of the third, scoring three goals (H. Cattoni, S. LeClair, B. McIntosh) to tie the game at 5 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth however, Panther City responded with a run of three goals of their own. The Wings offense started to chip away as Joe Resetarits scored with 8:14 remaining in regulation, to make the score 8-6. It took the full 60 minutes for the Wings to level the score though, as Resetarits scored again with 1:04 remaining. Then, after a timely faceoff win and Nick Rowlett timeout, Ben McIntosh scored his 300th career goal with 39 seconds remaining in regulation.

Entering overtime, the Wings had two or three good possessions and looks on goal. But came out on the losing side of things after Phil Caputo capitalized on a rebound just under 5 minutes into overtime.

For the first time in a while, the Wings outshot their opponents (56 to 50), but unfortunately ran into a hot goalie. Nick Damude made 48 saves against the Wings on the night.

On the scoring side of things, the Wings were led by Joe Resetarits (2G, 3A) and Holden Cattoni (1G, 4A), who had 5 points each. Ben McIntosh scored a hat trick, including his 200th career goal, and Blaze Riorden (1G, 2A) and Sam LeClair also found the back of the net. Taggart Clark had 2 assists, while Mitch Jones was held to just 1 assist on the night. Chad Tutton and Mitch Jones had 9 loose balls each, and Ian Llord led the Wings in blocks with four PCLC  shots soaked on the night. Scott Dominey led the team with 2 caused turnovers. In goal, Zach Higgins made 41 saves on 50 shots.

The Wings will see Panther City one more time this regular season on April 7th in Fort Worth. The Wings will look to win that game by more than one goal to grab the all important playoff tiebreaker as we get into the latter half of the season.

The Wings are back in action next Saturday at 7:30 as they travel down to Georgia to take on the Swarm. That game can be watched locally in Philadelphia on Philly57 and streamed on ESPN+.
