Wings Fall to Rock 11-7

The Philadelphia Wings got off to a good start against the Toronto Rock, but could not hold off the hard-charging squad in an eventual 11-7 setback north of the border in Week 2 of the NLL season.

Philadelphia started out strong with a 2-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game thanks to goals from Blaze Riorden and Joe Resetarits. Toronto anwered those before the end of the frame, however, and it was 2-2 after 15 minutes.

Sam LeClair potted a goal 2:18 into the second quarter to restore Philadelphia’s advantage, but the Rock then scored three times in just over two minutes to make it a 5-3 game and take a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. It was part of a six-goal second quarter for Toronto, and though the Wings benefited from Mitch Armstrong’s first NLL goal and a tally from Mitch Jones, they trailed 8-5 at the break.

It was a stingy second half, as the teams combined for just five goals in the final 30 minutes. Toronto scored the first two to extend the lead to 10-5; Joe Resetarits added one to make it 10-6 and then the Wings closed out the scoring in the fourth on the first NLL goal for Taggart Clark.

Zach Higgins absorbed the loss, stopping 40 of 51 Toronto bids. Jones led the way with a goal and three assists for a four-point contest, while Resetarits was the only Wing to score multiple goals. Chad Tutton and Alex Pace grabbed six loose balls apiece.
