Wings Defeat Firewolves in Overtime

The Wings may be statistically eliminated from playoff contention, but the team showed that their competitive drive is still alive and well as they battled their way to a gritty win in Albany on Sunday. In a season where the Wings offense has gone through large hot and cold stretches, the same was the case in Albany as the Wings were held scoreless in both the first and third quarters. In the second and fourth, the Wings scored 6 and 3 goals respectively, which was enough to send the game to overtime. just under 4 minutes into the extra session, Ben McIntosh ripped a shot past Doug Jamison to send the Wings home with the victory.

It was a big game for Joe Resetarits as he returned to play in Albany for the first time since he left to join the Wings in free agency last offseason. To make the night even more meaningful, Resy’s second goal of the game marked 100 points on the season for number 15, and made him the first American Born player in the history of the NLL to have three 100 point seasons. Mitch Jones quietly led both teams in scoring with 8 points (1G, 7A) and hit a big milestone as well as he passed 500 career points. Ben McIntosh recorded 6 points (3G, 3A) including the game winner in overtime, and Zach Higgins backstopped the Wings to the win with 54 saves.

The Wings will finish out their season next Saturday as they travel to Rochester looking to sweep the season series against the Knighthawks and finish the season at 9-9.
