Ian Rubel

Ian Rubel is the Wings Head Coach. Rubel joined the Philadelphia Wings as the Defensive Coach prior to the Wings return to Philadelphia in 2018, and was promoted to Head Coach ahead of the 2024-25 season. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Rubel began his lacrosse career as a teenager playing Junior B lacrosse in the St. Catharines Spartans organization. In 1998 he earned a spot with the St. Catharines’ Junior A Athletics where he is now the Defensive Coach. In 2000, Rubel signed with the Victoria Shamrocks, a Senior A team in the Western Lacrosse Association, where he played for three seasons. His time with the Shamrocks led to a career with the National Lacrosse League where he played for the Columbus Landsharks, Toronto Rock, Minnesota Swarm and the Rochester Knighthawks. With the Toronto Rock, Rubel played on three championship teams; 2002, 2003, and 2005. Along the way he also represented Canada in a Heritage Cup game.

Rubel’s years playing competitive lacrosse paved the way into coaching. With over 10 years of coaching experience and a lifetime of playing experience, Rubel naturally can connect with his players and knows how to push them to work harder as a team towards the goal of winning championships.
