Wings Select 8 Players at 2023 NLL Draft

Yesterday Wings General Manager Paul Day and Assistant GM Landon Miller Drafted 8 Players as they look to build for the future of Wings lacrosse. Going into the draft the Wings had the following draft picks 18 (Round 1), 45 (Round 3), 59 (Round 4), 60 (Round 4), 74 (Round 5), 75 (Round 5), 89 (Round 6), and 91 (Round 6). But just ahead of their first round pick at 18, Day pulled the trigger on a trade with Vancouver that sent the 18th overall pick to the Warriors in exchange for the 22nd overall pick and a second round pick in next year’s draft. At the end of the night, these were the selections the Wings had made.

22nd Overall: Mitchell Armstrong – L Defense | Brock University / St. Catharines Jr. A

Armstrong has worked closely with Wings Defensive Coordinator Ian Rubel, who coached him in St. Catharines, he is a leader on the floor and has a bright future in the NLL.

45th Overall: Dalton Young – R Forward | University of Richmond

Young scored 110 goals and registered 76 assists in 49 games at Richmond, and his coach Dan Chemotti thinks he is ready for the NLL: “He is elite in every category tangibly and intangibly. He is built different physically and mentally.”

Highlights

59th Overall: Stone Jacobs – R Transition | University of Vermont

Jacobs registered 8 goals and 10 assists from the midfield in 40 games at Vermont.

60th Overall: Noah Millsap – R Defense | Orangeville Northmen

Millsap stands at 6’3″ and weighs 195 lbs, his large frame will help bolster the size of the Wings defensive core.

74th Overall: Brandon Hund – R Transition | Towson

Hund was a 3 year captain at Towson where he played SSDM. He is playing his final NCAA season at Rutgers this year.

75th Overall: Russell Maher – L Forward | University of Virginia

Highlights

89th Overall: Jackson Ganton – R Defense | Edmonton Miners Jr. A

91st Overall: Hayden Fox –  L Defense | Johns Hopkins University

Only time will tell as we hope to see some of these draft picks competing at the Wings Development Camp and Open Tryout in October as they look to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
