Liam Byrnes selected by Panther City Lacrosse Club in 2021 NLL Expansion Draft

Byrnes joined the Wings for the 2018-2019 season and appeared in 25 games over two seasons

PHILADELPHIA (June 30, 2021) – Philadelphia Wings defenseman Liam Byrnes has been selected by the Panther City Lacrosse Club in the 2021 NLL Expansion Draft. As the team prepares for its inaugural season, the Panther City Lacrosse Club selected 13 players from around the league to build its roster for the 2021-2022 season beginning in December.

 

Byrnes departs the Wings after spending two seasons with the club. Averaging 17:00 minutes in floor time, Byrnes appeared in a total of 25 games with the Wings, totaling two goals and five assists. Byrnes was originally acquired from the Georgia Swarm on August 24, 2018. Prior to joining the NLL, Byrnes was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 with the Marquette Men’s Lacrosse team.

 

“Liam has been a strong player for us both on and off the turf,” said Wings Head Coach & General Manager, Paul Day. “We want to thank Liam for his commitment to the Wings over the past two years and wish him well in Fort Worth.”

 

The league last held an Expansion Draft prior to the 2019-20 season, as the New York Riptide and Rochester Knighthawks formed the beginnings of their respective squads. Additional ways for PLCC to build their roster heading into Faceoff Weekend (December 3rd-4th, 2021) include signing any free agents starting on August 1st, the NLL Entry Draft (Late Summer/Fall 2021), and player trades with other teams.
