Dates: July 15-16; August 5-8; August 12-15

Time: 8:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Who: Children Ages 8-14, separated by age groups 8-11 and 12-14

Where: Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ; Training Center of the Philadelphia Flyers and Philadelphia Wings

Why: To encourage multi-sport participation by providing a camp that will allow campers to experience hockey and lacrosse in the same camp, something unique to our company

Cost:$150 (July 15-16 session), $250 (August 5-8 or August 12-15 session)

Experience Level Needed:

  • Hockey– Flyers Rookie Program (at least one introductory hockey lesson session)
  • Lacrosse– No experience necessary

Equipment Needed:

  • Hockey– Full hockey equipment required
  • Lacrosse– Sticks, helmet, and gloves required (sticks and googles will be available for borrow)

Program Details:

  • 75 minutes of ice time each day
  • 75 minutes of turf time each
  • 45 minutes of classroom time

Ice Time Details:

  • 15 min of full ice skating working on skating stride, knee bend, and balance
  • 40 min of skills drills; 5 stations
    • Cone weave with a shot
    • Back and forth passing drill
    • Turning drill with puck control
    • Ring game(working on puck control and stick lifts)
    • Soccer on the ice (small area game, works on skating and balance, is also very fun for the kids)
  • The end of each ice slot will be reserved for cross ice games for the players to get a feel for the game and the competitive nature of hockey
  • Each day the practice plan will change to build of the skills learned the previous day

Turf Time Details:

Main focus will be on having all players take part in fun games to help develop and reinforce the basics of the game:

  • Passing
  • Catching
  • Shooting
  • Cradling
  • Ground Balls

Classroom Sessions:

Hockey– Discussions include:

  • Rules of hockey, positions, and some of the terms needed to understand the game
  • YouTube videos to show players visually as well as keep them engaged in the lesson
  • Trivia on the last day of each camp

Lacrosse: Discussions include:

  • Learning the meaning behind the game
  • Discussing the games we have played while explaining the importance of the skill it has taught

Other Program Details:

  • 7/1 player to coach ratio for the on ice sessions
  • Counselors will be available to stay with the groups when changing activities as well in the locker rooms to make sure no issues arise as well as helping players get dressed
