Wings fall flat in loss to Riptide

The Wings slow start against the Riptide on Saturday night turned out to be too much to come back from as the Wings fell 13-10.

The Riptide opened the scoring just under 7 minutes into the 1st quarter, and after 3 more New York goals, including 2 on the powerplay, Joe Resetarits finally got the Wings on the board with just under 2 minutes remaining in the opening quarter. After Mitch Jones opened the scoring in the 2nd to make it 4-2 Riptide, New York went on another 3 goal scoring run before tallies from Mitch Jones and Blaze Riorden made it 7-4 going into halftime.

The Wings showed signs of life in the second half, and got within 1 goal with about 5 minutes left into the 3rd. However, a 4 goal run from New York saw the Wings down by 5 goals with 7 minutes to play. The Wings scored three goals to make it 12-10, but a goal from Jeff Teat with just over 2 minutes left in regulation put the game out of reach.

The loss is a let down for the Wings, but they still sit in 4th place in the Eastern Conference and control their own destiny with seven games left in the regular season. They look to bounce back with another doubleheader this weekend against the Georgia Swarm and the Rochester Knighthawks.

Be sure to get your tickets for the Bark in the Bowl game, and bring your furry friend to the Wings game on Saturday!
