Philadelphia, PA (June 2, 2018) – The Philadelphia Wings participated in a coin toss with fellow expansion team, The San Diego Seals, during halftime of game 2 of the NLL Championship in Rochester, NY on Saturday evening. The coin toss was used to determine who would pick first and second in both of the upcoming drafts. San Diego won the coin toss and chose to select first in the entry draft in September. The Philadelphia Wings will have the second pick in that draft and the first overall pick in the expansion draft on July 16th.
Newly announced team Assistant General Manager, Landon Miller, represented the team alongside Seals General Manager and Head Coach Pat Merrill and NLL Commissioner Nick Sakiewicz. “We knew that either way the coin landed we would be in a spot to have a first selection in one of the drafts,” said Miller. “The league has some talented players that will be made available to the expansion teams and we are excited to get the first pick in that draft.”
Both San Diego and Philadelphia will have first round selections in the entry draft. They will each have two picks in the second, third and fourth rounds, and one in the fifth and sixth.
“The expansion draft is the first step in building our roster and we are working hard to prepare for July and secure top players in the league,” commented General Manager and Head Coach Paul Day.
The team will begin play at the Wells Fargo Center in December of this year.
